GENERAL
The Alabama Supreme Court is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals to fill a vacancy in the class of ASSISTANT PLANT ENGINEER I (99167). Applications for this position will be accepted until Friday, April 3, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

WORK SETTING
        Reports to the Judicial Building Plant Engineer for the Heflin-Torbert Judicial Building located in Montgomery, Alabama, performing skilled work in the general maintenance and repair of the facilities and equipment in the Judicial Building.

Employees in this class are responsible for assisting in the general maintenance and repair of the Judicial Building's facilities, furnishings, and equipment. In addition to actual hands-on repair and maintenance, work duties may also involve responsibility for monitoring services by contract providers and manufacturers’ representatives. Work also involves assisting in planning, developing, and implementing new methods and procedures designed to improve operations and to minimize operating costs. Work is reviewed through consultations with the Plant Engineer and Marshal of the Alabama Appellate Courts.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of building and equipment maintenance, including maintenance and repair of HVAC, electrical, water/plumbing, and security systems.
  • Experience with computers and HVAC control software.
  • Knowledge of standard skilled trade operations and repair methods; knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Demonstrated skill in diagnosing and repairing defects in mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of materials and tools used in building maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of principles of budgeting and cost estimating.
  • Ability to perform hands-on maintenance and repair work when such work is not covered by appropriate maintenance and service contracts.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and coordinate the work of skilled and semi-skilled personnel.
  • Ability to keep records and submit written reports of equipment installation, repair, and maintenance activities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, and subordinates.
  • Ability to read blueprints and building plans; ability to read and interpret manufacturers’ service manuals and plans and drawings of machinery and mechanical equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
        Any combination of training and experience equivalent to graduation from a standard senior high school supplemented with vocational courses in mechanical or electrical engineering.

        Must have a minimum three (3) years of working experience in the operation and maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment, and in the maintenance of buildings and other physical equipment, some of which must have been in a supervisory capacity.



SPECIAL REQUIREMENT(S)

Possession of a Universal type EPA Certification for servicing all type of HVAC equipment. 
All qualified individuals must provide three (3) references.
