GENERAL
The Alabama Administrative Office of Courts (AOC) is currently accepting applications from qualified individuals to fill a vacancy in the class of COURT SPECIALIST I (05001) for Montgomery County. Applications for this position will be accepted until Thursday, December 31, 2020 at 5:00 PM.
WORK SETTING

This is entry-level court clerical work in the office of a Circuit or District Clerk that follows well defined procedures. Employees assist the public, parties to cases, attorneys, and judges both over the counter and by telephone by providing general information which may involve referring to court calendars, case action summaries, fee sheets, case files, etc. The consequences of error by employees in this class can have serious repercussions; the misfiling of papers, failure to enter returns or issue subpoenas can seriously retard the progress of a case in the court system. Supervision received is direct and constant until the employee masters his well-defined area of responsibility. As the employee becomes more proficient in his assigned duties, there is more opportunity for initiative and independent judgment.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND/OR SKILLS
  • Ability to effectively communicate with judges, attorneys, court personnel and general public.
  • Congenial personality a must.
  • Ability to adhere to prescribed office regulations.
  • Ability to make good decisions.
  • Knowledge of proper office etiquette, dress and professionalism.
  • Knowledge and proper use of business writing skills, grammar, and spelling.
  • Ability to make simple computations and tabulations accurately, with reasonable speed.
  • Ability to keyboard with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to learn and utilize computer applications.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a standard senior high school, or possession of a GED equivalency, and successful completion of a written test.
